There's one segment of the healthcare industry that has avoided the soaring prices of the rest of the system -- cosmetic surgery. Congress can't stand an example of how health care can actually work when the government and insurance companies aren't involved, so they want to tax tummy tucks. lasik eye surgery also has avoided the increase in cost by not being covered by insurance. apparently the free market works when you leave it alone. i first saw that on 20/20 when john stossell worked over the heathcare reform legislation

a few weeks later i saw a speech by Dr miller-meeks who is an eye doctor and she pretty much said the same thing.
