Only eight days after its introduction, the bill to give Microsoft $36 million in tax breaks cleared its final hurdle in the Iowa Legislature, passing on a 48-2 vote.
Meanwhile, the legislature shows no urgency to help all Iowa businesses by conforming Iowa's depreciation rules to the new federal rules. Too bad Microsoft couldn't have lobbied for that, too.

Only 2 senators and one rep voted against it, all Democrats.
At a public legislative meeting I asked 3 legislators how the only full service driver license station in Polk County was moved from Des Moines to Ankeny, apparently to help one politically connected developer. All 3 Republicans shrugged and said it was a done deal, not an issue. I think legislators in general are bought, cheaply.
