A Nebraska legislator wants to protect her simple, innocent folk from the lures of that Babylon of the Plains, Council Bluffs, according to online edition of The Des Moines Register (link to Register story no longer available).
"A Nebraska lawmaker briefly proposed going to war with Iowa to keep Nebraskans from gambling at casinos here.
Senator Pam Brown of Omaha offered the amendment Wednesday at the Nebraska Capitol in Lincoln.
She said she did it to get the attention of colleagues during debate on a measure that would ask voters to allow casino gambling in Nebraska.
Supporters of the casino measure have complained that Nebraskans spend an estimated $250 million a year at casinos next door in Iowa."
This raises two questions:
Can we defend against Nebraska? Our football experience (15-79-2) doesn't inspire confidence, but we did win last year.
Was the closing of the Tama casino really a goodwill gesture to our angry neighbor?
